Bitola Chinar tree is the largest and one of the oldest trees in Bitola and the Balkans. It is located on the street Dimitar Vlahov on the Bitola Bair settlement, not far from the Kerim-bey hammam and the primary school “Gorgi Sugarev”.
According to one legend it is believed that six centuries ago the tree was planted by a prisoner in the Bitola Turkish women’s prison.
Chinar (Platanus orientalis, Old World Sycamore, or Oriental Plane) is a large, deciduous tree of the Platanaceae family, growing up to 40 m, and known its for longevity and spreading crown.
