Bitola, August 17, 1917
Dear friend!
I send you this postcard from Monastir (Bitola) after the bombing of Bulgarians. Many houses are destroyed like the ones on the picture and many residents left the city to seek refuge in the surrounding villages south of the city.

In the foreground is “Drven Pazar” (Wood Market, later called Sheep Market ) and further is Sungur Chaush Mosque (does not exist today), Isak Mosque, Yeni Mosque and Clock Tower. The postcard was published and printed in: Printing House- Boushinov

Kopanki- Ski Center – Pelister National Park

Kopanki Ski center is located in National park “Pelister” in the southwest part of the Republic of Macedonia.

The location of the Ski center Kopanki itself on the northwest part of the National park, provides a view on the Pelagonia valley, the town Bitola and it’s surrounding, that takes Your breath away. This part of the park is one of the most interesting and most exciting localities, specific with his wealth of the rare kinds of flora and fauna.

The connection with the ski center is with 15 km asphalt road from Bitola, while the distance from the Ohrid’ s airport is 70 km, and from Skopje’ s airport is 180 km.

Bitola, January 1917 – During the First World War

With the entry of the Entente forces in Bitola in November 1916, the armies of the Central Powers retreated to the surrounding mountains.

After many years of warfare and epidemics of infectious diseases, the city’s population (~ 25,000 residents) by new catastrophe and for almost two years was bombed with various types of grenades.

Photos in this post show different scenes from Bitola in January 1917.

Church St. Mary in Bitola – Photo Gallery

Church St. Mary in Bitola is one of the famous churches in Bitola, built in 1870 and consecrated in 1876.

This temple is famous for its iconostasis, considered to be work of the famous Miak masters. In essence, this iconostasis is made from two other. Their incorporation into this space has its own history, for which you can read more on the following link >>>

Mate Shundovski (1936-2006) – photo gallery

Mate Shundovski was widely known as an avid supporter and leader of several fan groups in Macedonia, especially in handball and football.

Among other things, many remember him as conductor of the so-called “Largest Fan Group Choir in the World”.  During the World Handball Championship in 1974, when former Yugoslavia played and won the world title against Germany, Mate Shundovski and the fans also received a special recognition.

With his baton, Mate Sundovski was a favorite among fans and players of Pelister, Kometal, Rabotnicki and other teams in Macedonia.
