Magnolia is ornamental tree originating from North America. There are more than 200 different species of Magnolia trees. Its luxuriant flowers are with size of 15-30 cm, in pink, white or purple colours. It blooms in March and the leaves are large, shiny green and grow after the flowers.
With its splendid beauty and a striking scent this decorative tree can be found in many yards, but also around the Clock Tower and Yeni mosque in the center of Bitola.
In the past, this decorative tree existed in front of the house of the famous Bitola merchant Ikonomov. The house at the end of the 19th and early 20th century served as Austro-Hungarian consulate.
From here comes the name of the “Magnolia” square in the center of Bitola.
