Pelister National Park

Pelister National Park – Nature at Its Purest

Established in 1948, Pelister National Park is the oldest national park in Macedonia and is best known for its unique Molika pine (Pinus peuce), a rare five-needle pine found only in a few places in the Balkans. The park covers a vast area of alpine meadows, dense forests, rocky peaks, and clear mountain streams, offering a peaceful escape from city life.
From late spring to autumn, Pelister is perfect for hiking, walking, photography, picnics, and wildlife observation. The weather between June and November is mild and pleasant, with cool mountain temperatures in summer and spectacular autumn colors later in the season.

The Pelister Lakes – The “Eyes of Pelister”

The highlight of the park is undoubtedly the Pelister Lakes, often called the “Eyes of Pelister.” These two glacial lakes—the Big Lake and the Small Lake—are located high in the mountains and surrounded by untouched nature. Reaching them is an experience in itself, with well-marked hiking trails leading through pine forests and open alpine terrain.

From June to early autumn, the lakes are also accessible with Jeep Safari.
